The 19th “Beseda u Bigbítu” festival: over 40 bands from 6 countries

Excellent English bluesman Paul Lamb & The King Snakes and dubstep duo JazZsTepPa, top Hungarian trip-hop band Realistic Crew, Polish ethno-ska band Etna Kontrabande as well as alternative musicians Neruda from Prague: such a combination is possible only at the 19th “Beseda u Bigbítu” festival, whose organizers and visitors have now for some time known what they desire.

Quality, pleasant atmosphere and reaching out to all possible directions belong to the key values of the Moravian festival, which will host over 40 bands from 6 countries on its two stages during the first August weekend. „I experienced the fantastic vibrations as soon as I got off the car. It was the best performance of the whole tour, people at Beseda have their hearts wide open,“ stated Chicago blues singer Wanda Johnson after her performance in Tasov. „Supporting mutual sharing, joy and openness to new things in music and life are the main reasons why we organize the festival,“ adds the event’s curator of the music program Zdeněk Neusar.

Other highlights of the festival will include D4D from Poland, Hungarians Special Providence, Gerda Blank from New Zealand, Longital and The Uniques from Slovakia, as well as Čokovoko, Dva, Lenka Dusilová, Kill The Dandies, Korjen etc.

The 19th edition of the “Beseda u Bigbítu” festival will take place in Tasov near Veselí nad Moravou, 100 kilometers from Brno or Bratislava, 5th – 6th August 2011. Each open minded listener will find their type of music and can also try out theatre performances, land-art and reading sessions, slam poetry and competitions – all that with the Apollon’s Visit sidebar. Resting at a local weir and having home-made brandy is another possibility.

The “Beseda u Bigbítu” festival has been held at a grove in the Moravian village Tasov at the base of The White Carpathians since 1992 (as a two-day event since 2002). It supports minority genres and strives to create a platform for the confrontation of talented amateur musicians with experienced artists from Europe as well as other continents.

Artists regardless of genre boundaries (including dulcimers and contemporary opera) annually meet on the two festival stages. The biggest stars of the past years include French trumpeter Erik Truffaz, Finnish crossover band Waltari, Wanda Johnson & Shrimp City Slim Blues Band (USA), Másfél (HUN), Tres Hombres (HUN), Felix Kubin (DE), Besh o droM (HUN), Erik Sumo Band (HUN) and – representing the Czech and Slovak scenes – Tata Bojs, Polemic, Bluesweiser, Boboš & Frozen Dozen, Peter Lipa, Mňága a Žďorp, Anna K, Psí vojáci, Už jsme doma as well as hundreds of others.

The festival is organized mainly to enlighten the visitors and is a non-profit event. The organizers from Žebřiňák civic society together with tens of volunteers invest their time to maintain the festival’s tradition, raise its quality and expand the accompanying events. They also extensively develop over-the-boarder cooperation with Slovakia and have now also been cooperating with partners from Hungary and Poland for two years which lead to the support from the International Visegrad Fund.
